Task 2: Coffee Cup Design Group Project 

Instruction: 



Submission: 


Materials: 

- PLA Bioplastic:

Renewable resources: PLA is derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch or sugarcane, rather than petroleum.

Usability: PLA-based coffee cups are often lined with PLA for water resistance.

- Recycled Paper:

Usability: Recycled paper need a polythylene lining to make them water.

Durability and aesthetic: Improved recycling processes have led to higher-quality recycled paper,
making these cups comparable to those made from virgin fibers.

Waste reduction: Using recycled paper helps divert paper waste from landfills.


Visual Goals: 

Minimalist Aesthetic: Creating a sleek and simple design that appealing to wide audience.

Natural and Organic Looking: Highlight the eco-friendly materials and communicate sustainability visually.

Reusable Material: Another key feature of this coffee cup is its easy-to-clean, non-stick interior, which prevents coffee stains and buildup.

Rationales: 

This single design has 3 chosen patterns, 2 of which are based on Taylor’s primary red and black colors, and 1 of which is based on the a color palette of tan and green, which is supposed to support one of the visual goals of effectively communicate the environmental sustainability visually, with green represents nature, and tan represents the color of coffee.

The highlight of the cup is the diagonal stroke that surrounds the cup, aligning the text “Taylor’s University”. This single stroke was not only meant to be sleek and elegant due to its minimalist approach, but the stroke was created to have a much more energetic movement that meant to captivate the audience with their excitement and enthusiasm towards Taylor’s.

Feedback: 

Week 5: 
- The theme of scarecrow is not suitable for the Taylor's theme
- Don't overdesign or complicate the cup.
- Use typefaces and patterns to enhance the design.

Week 4: 
Do sketches for the coffee cup designs and keep up the pace.
Reflection: 

Throughout the task, there's a lot of  profound learning experience that combined creative thinking, strategic planning, and practical application to the marketing principles and teamwork. One of the most rewarding aspects of this assignment was the creative process. The colors, typography, and material choice must align with the brand’s values and resonate with the target audience. This task reinforced the importance of cohesive branding and how minor details can create lasting impressions.
Reflecting on this assignment, I recognize how much my perspective on packaging and merchandising has evolved. Initially, I viewed packaging as a secondary aspect of product marketing. However, I now appreciate its role as the first point of interaction with the consumer, making it a critical factor in influencing purchase decisions.
