Experience:
As I've said before, Typography is a new experience to me. At first, its subtle content and substance always seemed questionable to me. Sure, it looks presentable when we all read with those fonts, but as someone who prefer louder design fill with colors and contrasts etc, I can't help but its overuses of subtlety a bit lacking in characteristics and expressions compared to other design medias I've encountered and experienced.
But opinions have changed since the course, and for better. I appreciate typography as a media now, especially the 3rd task where I design my own typeface known as Ghostmark, which is a equivalent of a marker resembles the appearance of a ghost. Anyway, as I said, creating my own typeface is where this course really have caught my attention.
I also learnt that it is important to receive feedback. Throughout the semester, I understand my feedbacks update is not consistent in a timely manner, but aside from that, I tried to take those feedbacks into heart. If design is an important factor to communication visually, then I think feedbacks should be applied as well.
Observation:
Looking back at my work, from Task 1 to Task 3, I can say that my work has improved overtime, which is both a hopeful and regretful thing to say. Because on one hand, there is hope for improvement if I play the cards right and set the design to both my lecturers' and my looking. But it is also regretful because I just wish there's a second chance to redeem my work from what I've learnt so far. But that being said, I know that mistakes happen, and keeping my mistakes as progress is just part of what my journey should be. To all who read this, trust your progress as well :)
Findings:
As I said, as someone who only has an artistic point of view, I also understand and learn techniques and particular rules of typography that I am not aware of. However, in the end, what matters the most is that throughout these 14 weeks of learning, I can safe to say I enjoy typography as part of my journey to design. My thoughts of creative expression while techniques that I've never done before digitally is what makes it so interesting for the past 14 weeks. Overall, regardless the outcome of results, I'd like to invest more to some of the things I missed out in typography beyond the classroom.
