Week 2:

Exercise 1 - Web Analysis

1. Review the website that you've selected carefully, taking note of its design, layout, content, and functionality.

2. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the website, and consider how they impact the user experience.

3. Write a brief report summarizing your findings and recommendations.

#1: Unanswered (https://letterstoevan.com/) from csswinner.com

The website starts off with a title screen, displaying a close up shot of Evan (presumably) stick to the title screen and a phone on top of the table. What's interesting is that when moving around the mouse, the objects fidget from left to right. Once click the phone, the website will proceed the main page, explaining the grim situation Evan was in.

On top of a very detailed title screen, the strong use of black and white background and visutal imagery capture a very strong hierarchy and create a very grim surrounding on what the website will present.

The main page slowly scrolls down as the narrating audio spoke what's on the paragraph, displaying high quality image explaining Evan's grim situation during his days in his street journal career in Russia. From the observation of website, there's really little sections to navigate other than the two options on the top right (narrating audio, information Q&A section).

As the website scrolls down to the footer page, there's another page displaying quotes, showing support of Evan's freedom.

Overall, the consistent use black and white in all of design elements, high quality images and surprisingly seamless performance. The only problem from observing is the fonts which sometimes displays inconsistencies in placements, including ones that hides behind the images as the website scrolls down.

#2: Basic/Debt (https://www.basicagency.com/), winner from webbyawards.com/

The website starts off with a title screen, displaying a reel what they've worked on as a branding agency. The website overall display a much lighter color such as white and rose, but also has black color to synthesize well with white in order to maintain the minimalist style and present their professionalism well.

Navigation is rather straight-forward, with the top display of 5 options consistently shown as the user scrolls down. However, the further the website, the further it gets complicated. Some pages and subheadings will turn from finger click icon to circle as guide to navigate the website, whether it is to drag left or right, or click on the video reel as explained earlier. But overall, the website should not be hard to follow.

There are 2 following flaws as navigating the website, the quality of photos can be inconsistent. Some photos are much higher quality (up to 1080p) to provoke users to know the website well enough, but others, most notably the lower side of the main page, have lower image quality, which caught less attention. Another flaw that has recognized is the amount of times the website pop-up and flickering without any smooth transition as user scroll down, most notably the fonts.
